SUMMER 2021 ONLINE WORKSHOPS

Register for our 5-week programming workshops! All workshops will take place online.

Registration will close on July 3 at 11:59 PM (EST).

Please email stempowering.girls@roboticsforyouth.org with any questions.

Introduction to Scratch: Scratch is a visual programming language and a great introduction to coding for children. In Intro to Scratch, students will learn about sprites and basic programming logic. During the last week, they will put together everything they’ve learned to create a project that will be presented to their class.

Recommended Age: 8+

Section 1 Dates: Saturdays, July 10 – August 7, 11 AM – 12 PM (EST)

Section 2 Dates: Sundays, July 11 – August 8, 10 AM – 11 AM (EST)

Introduction to Java: This class will allow students to explore basic coding concepts through object oriented programming. Students will be introduced to printing, variables, conditional logic, methods, loops, mathematical operators, and general coding conventions.

Recommended Age: 10+

Dates: Saturdays, July 10 – August 7, 10 AM – 11 AM (EST)

Intermediate Java: This class will build off of basic coding concepts and introduce students to more advanced concepts and data structures such as arrays, arraylists, classes, and more complex loops.

Recommended Age: 12+

Prerequisites: Knowledge of primitive data types, printing, methods, loops, conditional logic, and mathematical operators

Dates: Saturdays, July 10 – August 7, 10 AM – 11 AM (EST)

Introduction to Python: In this class, students will learn the basic syntax of python, creating variables of different data types, how to use control logic (if else, for and while loops), how functions work and how to write them, string operations/methods, and doing arithmetic operations with different primitive types.

Recommended Age: 10+

Dates: Sundays, July 11 – August 8, 11 AM – 12 PM (EST)

Intermediate Python: In this class, students will start where Intro to Python ends. Some topics that will be covered include recursive functions, lambda functions, classes, basic data structures such as arrays.

Recommended Age: 12+

Prerequisites: Knowledge of basic data types, string operations, control logic (if else, for, while), functions and arithmetic operations.

Dates: Sundays, July 11 – August 8, 12 PM – 1 PM (EST)
